A very masterful watercolour, Rob. Fantastic perspective, and accuracy. I particularly like the harbour wall, boats and water. And a very nice palette too!

Thank you Ann! Harbour paintings are some of my favourite scenes as I enjoy the contrast between the verticals and horizontals. Harbour walls are another favourite of mine - I love the opportunity to paint very loose with big, strong brushstrokes to give the impression of solidity (I hope!).

Beautiful watercolour, Rob, great detail and wonderful water.

Excellent in every respect. Great scene, great deatail, terrific perspective and excellent painting.

You do water so well but everything here is brilliantly done and I like the composition

A wonderful composition Rob, your detail is superb, I love this.

This is beautiful Rob. I have only ever been to Burghead once with my late husband and we were exploring all the Pictish forts in Scotland. That was 40 years ago but I remember we went down stairs and found that there was a Roman Well there. Is that the same mound?

Dorothy it's the same place. The Burghead Well is still there - it's right amongst houses with a grass surround but walled in - the gate is kept locked but you can get the key for a visit on an honesty basis. The fort stands on a headland sticking out into the Firth - it's only a grassy mound now although there is lots of hidden archaeology under the town which was built in the 19th century and covered about the landward half of the fort's enclosed area. Thank you!

Thanks everyone for the great comments - I'm glad you like it. There was a lot of detail but hopefully not too much!

Thank you Michael! I'm glad you like it!

Burghead is a working fishing port on the Moray Firth close to where I live. The grassy mound at left is the remains of the biggest Pictish fort in Scotland, leading some historians to see Burghead as the capital of the Pictish nation. I love the working boats. There's not as much rust here as I showed in my last work of Burghead, but I enjoyed building the aerial perspective of this big harbour alongside the linear perspective while trying to give the impression of the into-sun light of the big sky.
