Monet's Garden, Giverny
In 2011 my wife and I took a vacation in France and based ourselves at a beautiful spot in Connelles on the River Seine. We toured the area, including a visit to Monet's iconic garden at Giverny. We were blessed by beautiful weather. This painting shows part of the huge upper garden. As we explored the numerous pathways, we bumped into Monte Don, who was filming an episode of BBC2's Gardeners' World. As it was mid-May, the garden was awash with colour with the irises and peonies in full bloom. It was truly breathtaking and I knew that I had to paint it.
