Thank you all for your comments. I live in Underhill (because its under a hill) on the Isle of Portland, off the Dorset coast by Weymouth. It is very hilly. Whichever way you turn when you go out you either have to go up or down. But it is only 5 minutes walk from the sea. I shall be painting the other “Westerlies” (streets that lay on the west side of Fortuneswell). Next is King street. It is quite a challenge, but my thoughts whilst I am painting are always ‘keep it loose - paint as little as possible - but keep the light"

When I first moved to the Isle of Portland, Dorset, I had the house at the bottom on the left. I loved that place - modernised Victorian, with views out to sea. My studio is now close by - the emotions are obvious. Painted in oil on stretched canvas 20” x 16” unframed
