Great painting (and sentiment). How did you achieve the 'growing crystal' pattern in the hair? It is very effective.

Super painting Philip. I’m also interested in how you achieved the ‘growing crystal’ pattern???

I'm presuming you used salt - now then, I've seen many portraits and photographs of old Karl, but .... he wasn't a forest! Still - I like it. He might not have done, but I do.

A fabulous watercolour, super washes, use of colour - has a great deal of impact.

Excellent painting and beautifully done.

So beautifully painted and with such great impact Philip.

Great portrait and beautiful washes, Philip.

It seems the 'growing crystals' have caused interest and some have correctly assumed that this is the application of pink salt into a drying wash. I have used this approach, based on what I have learned in this one, to create the effect of a gorse bush!
