incredible detail Philip such precision well done

The vehicles, and people going about their every day chores certainly put life into your work. Love the bus in the foreground.

This scene hasn't really changed that much there's still a pub on the right and the clock and tenements still exist.

Many thanks for your kind comment Philip. I've had a look through your gallery and must say that you have some super work and a definite style of your own which I can admire for it's detail and honesty. I especially like this one because of the perspective, cobbles, composition and the group of people on the left. You say that you'd like to paint loosely with more translucency and I can only suggest to you that you set yourself a bit of a challenge. On a smallish piece of paper, no pencil lines, straight in with the brush and just 20 minutes (maybe a bit longer) and see where that takes you. You obviously won't have time for any detail and it's a good way of loosening up. Or try the same thing with a fine marker pen. Draw quickly (no pencil or eraser) and the just add some loose washes. The secret is not to worry. You can draw well so you should find it relatively easy. You might surprise yourself. The recent sketches I did literally took minutes to do which is why they're certainly not perfect. My lines and perspective are all wrong but they were fun to do and all good practice for producing painting such as the Thomas Street one which you liked and would have taken me a possibly a day to paint. Any longer and I find they become laboured and sometimes overworked. I must add though that I admire your technique. I couldn't paint like you do, I haven't the patience!

Painting of view of Dundee's Hilltown area from the 1940's most of this scene at what is known as The Tap O The Hill hasn't changed all that much. The buildings on the right and the pub still exist as does the Hilltown clock and the tenements at the top. Obviously the team's are no more, ceasing service in 1956.
