Winter Sea - Scarborough

Achieved your aim beautifully Philip. Can't beat quick practice work and maybe this isn't practice, more a finished presentable piece.

Very different style Phillip but I like like it. Normally you would expect strong tones in the foreground and lighter in the distance but the dark distant hills and town work well against the sky.

Thanks guys. Yeah… it sort of goes against what we would normally do to create depth in a picture. But the area of foreground sand was very neutral and featureless and the sky dramatic and clear. I may try and tone down the reflections of the headland a little.

Great use of strong tone in the distance with cool hues which makes it work.

Lovely strong watercolour - I know this scene and you've captured the impact in painting it - not a "pretty,pretty" type painting - it's got drama and atmosphere.

Very dramatic with superb colours Philip. Love the sky and foreground. I would not change anything.
