He's always a great inspiration Peter, I met him in 1985 at a masterclass in Blackheath, tremendous stamina then in his 80's, anyway, a lovely controlled watercolour with plenty of depth to it, good stuff.

Very good tribute to the man.... I love his work.

As I'm sure you're aware, this isn't quite Hilder - it's very near, but not quite there. But then how could it possibly be? How can we ever recreate others' paintings? You can't, and I'm sure you wouldn't want to - I take this as a fine tribute to a great man, and in that regard it's wonderful, a powerful piece in its own right which I can enjoy as an individual painting, not as a copy of Rowland Hilder.

Thanks Alan and Robert for your kind comments. I was hoping that it would be judged different enough to be classed as my own interpretation, rather than a slavish copy, and I think it has been judged so. I had great fun painting it and I learned a lot on the journey.
