Great watercolour of a little ships graveyeard in a beautiful setting Peter! Lovely rendering of the rusty hulls, the water withe land behind it and the sea

Lovely work Peter, I'm sure this deserved to get to the final, good luck for next year!

love the detail in this

I do like it and I love the way you ahve done the old crumbling machinery, a theme that seems to be emerging. Never mind about competitions. Paint want you enjoy.

Super painting - perhaps I can come close to your excellent skills one day! For me, the only issue could be with the composition/emphasis. Looking at the picture, it seems obvious that the subject(s) are the boats, which I find fascinating & compelling. The problem that I have is the strip of land/dunes behind. There is so much going on here, in detail and with strong colour/tone that it draws my eye continually away from the boats.

Thank all for your comments, Gudrun you are spot on, but the competitions are a tool to the wider media and to move forward you need feedback and standing. Bill you hit my fear wright on the nail. I even considered cropping the picture, but after a lot of thought and deliberation I decided to leave it. What I've learnt from this one is I need to think out and plan my work before putting paint to paper. I'm at present reading a book on planning and composition by Ian Roberts, it's really opened my eyes. Bill please don't stop your critic, I really appriate people's comments, especially the points there not so happy with. Thank you all again.

Another beauty. I love your rusting boats and I personally! would have zoomed in on them . I agree with Bill and feel the background (which is beautifully painted) distracts me.A super palette too. I expect you worked from a photo so play about with the composition on your computer cropping and zooming ! until you're happy. One of my paintings is just about a 6th of the original photo.

Excellent work. I love all that rust!!

Found these two vessels in Antigua, whilst cruising in the Caribbean, they looked so compelling as a subject, just had to paint them. Tried the SAA artist of the year, didn't quite make the final, but managed to reach the last 9 in it's category, better luck next year, hope you like. Bockingford - Not - 250lb - 54 x 36 cm
