Linda Latham 20 Aug 2013 16:55 I love the frothy water surrounding the pebbles especially the pale one in the foreground where the bubbles are softening the edge of the stone. I feel it is almost perfect. Maybe just a little more shadow on the lower edge of the centre pebble touching the black/white stone. But who am I to judge? Fabulous.

Helen Jones 20 Aug 2013 18:15 Superb, your froth is very cleverly done. Must have taken ages to achieve this detail.

Ros P 20 Aug 2013 18:53 Very impressive work Peter, pebbles done like this make excellent subjects in just about about any medium! The differences in colour are super, great work on the bubbles as well!

Abigail Jones 20 Aug 2013 19:57 This is fantastic! I'm a newcomer to cp's so I know how difficult and time consuming this must've been, but you have cracked it!

Dawn Broughton 21 Aug 2013 13:23 Wonderful. Great skill involved here

karyl Quigley 21 Aug 2013 15:22 Agree with Linda, just some more shading under the pebbles to sink them a bit, but still a cracking painting.

Peter Nelson 21 Aug 2013 20:52 Thank you all for your warm and welcome comments. Yes it did take me a long time, approx about 40 hours. Because I used a fairly thick paper, this allowed me to embosse the paper to form the foam bubble structure, where I could brush the pencil across the paper and leave the white edges. I did have a problem with the shadding and this is where I need to learn more techniques, possible using a spirit to dissolve the wax and give a deeper depth of colour, but this may not suit a thicker paper. Hopefully I can get a feed back from people at the UKCPS. THanks again all.

Avril Soldani 22 Aug 2013 08:03 What a lovely piece of work. I too was fascinated by the article in the Artist and you've done a great job. Love the palette and all the detail. Looking foreward to a follow-up!

Thea Cable 23 Aug 2013 21:27 Lovely colours and textures - makes a great composition and painting.

This is really good Pete. Graham Being a UKCPS membr too, did write an excellent article and i'm glad it inspired you. How did you like the Derwent paper? I wasn't keen when i tried it at ICHF last year. I did try their new pastel paper at Art In Action and bought some to try with the XL cubes. As for pencils. I like FC Polychromos and they don't have the same wax bloom as you get with the Coloursofts. I often use a white or light pencil for burnishing or if I don't want to alter values I'll use the derwent burnisher pencil. I love the bubbles and froth and the way you have the pebbles part under water. This is a great piece.

Superb piece, Peter - great textures, palette and composition.

This very nicely done, you've rendered the sea foam perfectly and have got the colours just right.

Reorganising my portfolio and transferring comments. Further to my previous posting, I have finally finishes the complete picture, I was so taken with the artical by Graham Brace in the June issue of the artist mag that I had to give it a go. Again I need to learn the techniques for blending and burnishing and also obtain other types of pencils as i find it very difficult to obtain the darker tones with the colour soft pencils as the wax build up causes a barrier when trying to lay them down. Used the embossing tool to create the bubbles in the surf wash, with small touch ups using a scaupel and the occasional use of white gouache. I have recently joined the UKCPS to try and advance my knowlage and techniques, would apriciate any critical comments. Drawn on Derwent hot pressed paper 140lb - A4
