1. Michael Edwards 22 Jun 2013 18:54 Nothing to criticise here - what a great result - I can't get along with pencils so I really do admire this your first attempt.

2. Ros P 22 Jun 2013 19:07 Agree with Michael this super especially for your first attempt, love your rendering of the grass Peter and the huge tractor tyres, great title as well

Avril Soldani 23 Jun 2013 08:38 This is really good Peter. I do admire your greenery - I'm hopeless at it! You can produce some fantastic work with coloured pencils and as this is just your first I look foreward to the nextones! Used with water - washed over the 'drawing' - I find them difficult as they leave a water mark! Obviously me who doesn't know how to use them properly. I love this subject too!

4. karyl Quigley 23 Jun 2013 09:01 Love this Peter , lots to look at lots of detail.

5. Pat Harrison 23 Jun 2013 09:04 Again, just wonderful. May I ask how you produce the fine white lines? Do you use a white pencil?

6. Dawn Broughton 23 Jun 2013 09:12 Well done. I don't like pencils either so really admire your skill, especially for a first time.

7. Peter Nelson 23 Jun 2013 10:38 Thanks every one for the comments, must admit it took me a long time to complete, trying to blend the colours together, especially in the trees and grass. With regards to the fine white line, these were done with an embossing tool, before any colour was added, this lowers the surface of the paper in the area were you need it to stay white. My intrest in pencils was stimulated after reading an artical in the June addition of the Artist, by Graham Brace called natures bounty, just love the affects and detail he achived. As i am know traveling a lot in our new camper van its easier to do, than setting out all my painting equipment, so i have invested in a set of colour soft pencils. Will post future work when complete. Thanks again for the comments.

8. Gudrun Ståhl Sharpley 23 Jun 2013 17:50 It's been said; great skill! I knew it was one of yours from the subject! I look forward to more. Happy camping!

9. Thea Cable 23 Jun 2013 18:26 Fantastic drawing - I actually thought it was watercolour to start with. Great colours, tones and composition.

karyl Quigley 08 Sep 2013 08:50 Good morning Peter, took your advice and looked on the coloured pencil website, there are some wonderful artists on there, then I spent a long time on the coloured pencil tuition site, and watched some great tutorials, the only pencils I like are the inktense because you can blend them better. I have tried lots of coloured pencils and pastel pencils, the only ones I find the best are Creta colour, you can go over these colour after colour, which I couldn't do with the others. I tried the Faber castell artists pens yester day they are like a brush in a pen. They are good for detailed work and do brilliant eyes but you cant blend with them. that's all for now, will keep experimenting.

A super piece, Peter - great composition and loads of atmosphere.

Great drawing Peter, painted beautifully too.

I'm glad that you reposted this as I missed it first time around. Lovely drawing, especially the wheels which look solid :)

Super work! have you a blog or a website ?

High Peter - you were very kind with your remarks on my efforts so I thought I would have a look at yours - and I am glad I did - I love the simple approach - this is the sort of thing I take photo's of but never thought about painting them - you have given me food for thought - I simply love the rusty nails - brilliant
