This just sums up French life! I love his expression and the folds in his 'silk' coat! Madeline

Thanks Madeline - stayed at his gite a few years ago - took his photo (before I started painting) - he was in front of a corrugated iron shed - not very picturesque - so when I got round to painting him I moved him to a spot near Mont St Michel - artistic licence I think - just as in the Old Port at Honfleur - had the remove the church spire so that when I placed the fisherman (from a nother different photo) it wouldn't seem to be sticking out of his head!

Hello Trevor, Thank you for your comment on 'Fire and Ice'. This is a wonderful portrait. The clothes everything, it is so clever. Your clouds are pretty good too. Is there a touch of yellow ochre in there? Excellent

Very nicely painted indeed - love his expression - just wonder whether his wine glass hand fingers are a little large? Having said that I'd hang it on my wall anyday!

Like this alot. Great expression-wine beginning to 'click'in!

A Normandy farmer breaks off from his toil in the fields to enjoy a lunchtime glass of vin rouge with a jambon et fromage baguette. Alkyd oil on board - 18in x 14in. - Thought I'd got the waterproof nature of his oilskin coat just right when my 6 yearold grandson asked why he was wearing a silk coat!!!
