Earlier this year we spent several weeks in New Zealand, and for one of those weeks we visited Russell, Bay of Islands. On a walk around the coast we came across this stare hole feature and I realised it would make good subject matter for a future painting. In this piece I've tried to make a differentiation in textures by using brushwork for the sky and sea, and pallet knife for the rocks and vegetation in order to make the land more clearly the subject of the image.
