Never boring Paul, especially when they are painted with such detail and accuracy as this is. What they lack in dazzle they make up for in personality. You have a lovely gallery and it's a delight to look at.

I really like your excellently painted birds.

A beautiful painting Paul with excellent detailed work - and great observation. This one in particular caught my eye - I am very drawn to sparrows as their markings are so attractive even though the feather colouring is less striking than some of the other birds.

Sparrows are declining though we seem to have plenty. This is so beautifully painted.

Amazing and very beautiful. The touch of green in the lichen is lovely and how did you manage those tiny white feathers ?!! No sparrows in my garden anymore - replaced by every family of Tits.

So beautifully drawn and painted. The tree bark and lichen is amazing.

Beautifully painted series of birds and incredible detail.

This is beautiful Paul, i like to paint birds too :-) you have really achieved the realism of this bird :-) looks like it is from the pages of a book :-) clear and crisp :-)

You have painted a wonderful collection of birds, beautifully - not boring at all.

Your birds are amazing and I absolutely love them. I love the detail in them, the way you have captured the attitude of the individual bird's bodies and not least, the beautifully painted branches that they are sitting on. Superb work.

Wow, so many lovely comments, I didn't expect that! I only paint as a hobby so therefore hold a full time job as a Meter Reader for SW Water. Time to paint is always a problem but I do try and make a few hours in the evenings and at the weekend available when I can. Avril Soldani - I tend to use mostly a size 000 Cotman brush and for the whites I do use the occasional Gouache or white acrylic. Trying to save the whites for some of the detail can be impossible for me, so these little 'add ons' my not be traditional but it works for me. :-)

Lovely, lovely birds, all of them!

Viewed all five painting, all superb, excellent attention to detail and clarity. Love the sparrow the best, but that's just my preference.

Thank you everyone for your lovely comments, it certainly gives me a buzz to do more!

House Sparrow in Watercolour - SAA 140lb paper 167mm x 225mm. I know this is normally a boring looking bird but I do like the colours within the feathers. I was able to pick out not just a wide range of browns but reds, blues and even yellows of varying tones. A lovely one to paint. http://www.devonartist.co.uk/
