Love this trio of Vultures and your title for the painting Paul, and indeed it could be said that quite a number of committee's will be led by people who probably have more than just a passing resemblance to these birds! Love the colours in it, the way you painted them and the branches of the tree as well

Hi Paul - I really like this - lovely warm colours and great tone. Did you use ink? I don't know the website you referred to - is it good for inspiration?

This is great. I love the fact that you had the courage to go with the yellow tones and didn't feel the need to introduce a contrast, which would have been a mistake I feel. Great pen work and overall a really striking painting.

Thank you Ladies. Appreciate the comments. Heather, No ink I'm afraid...just Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber and French Ultramarine. The really dark areas are a strong mix of French Ultra and Burnt Umber. Paint My Photo (Google it and have a look) is exactly what it sounds like. I don't want to overly advertise another website here, but there is a brief guide to the site on their homepage that will tell you everything you need to know. I'm happy to recommend the site.

Hi Thea. When I first thought about this painting it started out as an experiment where I would use a couple of flat colours and the birds would be suggested by painting as few dark lines as possible....a bit like a coloured Michael Edwards cartoon. Clearly, I've moved away from that completely, but retained the limited palette and dark 'drawn' feel to the birds. It was an experiment and I quite like the way it turned out.

I've been to committee meetings like that......

I love the way you have done this:)linda

Hi Paul - I did try out the Paint my Photo website and have found it a really useful reference source so far. I have done one painting of a frog which I posted but I plan to use it more. But I saw that you have won their painting of the month - well done!! And I think you did well to get such good darks with watercolour alone, I will need to try harder and not resort to ink! H

That's ironic....I've just been thinking about buying some ink! Thanks for the comments Heather

A4 sized watercolour. Drawn to a great photo on PaintMyPhoto http://paintmyphoto.ning.com/photo/vulture-trio?context=user Drawn to the image because the birds are an interesting shape and the composition didnt need much changing. Comments regarding improvements welcomed.
