This must have taken you ages! Beautiful colours. How did you do that really delicate detailed bit within the wide part of the letter a ?

Thank you Sarah and Heather, I appreciate your comments. Heather, it is simply opaque watercolour paint (white gouache with a touch of blue) painted over the blue background.

Saw the Book of Kells in Dublin a few years ago and had the idea of a medieval image of some sort in the back of my mind since taking up painting again. This is my impression of a genuine medieval document. Nobody knows who painted it, but the image suited my purposes. I didn't intend to use a pen, but I'm working so small that it was getting fiddly with paint.
