Monique Parker recently posted a painting of the first glimpse you get of The Treasury at Petra and it sent me off at a tangent. It reminded me that I had chickened out of painting a similar view when I picked up paints again at the beginning of the year. I only have one pad and I was in the middle of another painting, so I just grabbed some cartridge paper and did this drawing. It's OK, but I struggled to mix the subtle oranges, pinks, reds, browns and purples that are found throughout Petra. I decided to leave out a lot of the colours because they weren't right and it would've ended looking more of a mess.
