Lovely spontaneous and lively painting. I like the shadows and the light on the vase. If this is your first attempt as a vase of flowers, then you have done really, really well.

I agree with Thea Paul, lovely loose spontaneous painting.....and one to be proud of for a first attempt.

Thea and Fiona are right, Paul: if this is your first attempt, wow! With all your own comments about the difficulties you had, I am very curious to see the next one!

Thank you Ladies. I haven't tried flowers before because I'm not much of a flowers or still life sort of a chap. There is only one painting in my entire Gallery that is a still life and that was a challenge to try someone else's style. I will do another one this weekend and we'll see if this one is a fluke.

First attempt at bunch of flowers. Saw painting by Pat Weaver, tried to work out how she had painted it and put my finger on why I liked it so much...then put it away. Composed a bunch of flowers and painted them. I am reasonably happy with result, but.....I have made all the flowers the same size.....I struggled with the green stuff because I thought that bit would be easy and did not give much thought to it....and I was a bit slap dash with the shadow because the splattering in my previous painting was well received, but I think it works less well here. Will get a proper reference photo for a bunch of flowers and have another go sometime.
