I think this is great Paul! I love the lively pen work and the light coming into the right of the main building. If anything, you could possibly add some shadows of the figure to anchor them to the floor. Lovely work!!

I agree with Tracey, this is a lovely pen and wash painting. I can't really see the pencil work on the screen but if it annoys you then erase it. By not adding too much detail on the left,, the focus is very much on the light between the two buildings, which I think works well. I think the dark greens at the base of the buildings also works well, it reminds me a little of David Gentleman's work.

I think this is a great rendition of a sunny afternoon, you have caught the atmosphere just right and I would leave every thing as it is, and like Stephen I can't see any pencil work.

I also think its perfect as it is, a very good balance of light.

Thank you very much for your comments. David Gentleman is a new name to me so I will be sure to look him up Stephen. Shadows confuse the heck out of me Tracey. I didn't give the waiter or most of the bollards a shadow because they are in the shade of the buildings and not in direct sunlight. So would they have a shadow anyway, from reflected light bouncing around the square? Thanks again.

The answers to your two comments: no and no. Just leave it as it is. The sort of painting I love doing and this is such a great example of the genre - keep them coming Paul

I agree with Michael. It is lovely piece. Leaving pencil is that is your style. All people have all different idea. That's why paintersonline is so much fun to look at.

This is great Paul, I really like it, great pen and wash, my favorite. I can't see the pencil so unless it's more obvious in the actual image as opposed to the digital, I don't think you should worry about it. Having said all that, I never use pencil, yuk, I go straight in with pen, pencils are a dirty and disgusting habit. (Take no notice, I have been told I need to get over my aversion to pencils)

Thanks again for your comments and opinions. Much appreciated.

A very lively watercolour. To your two questions- don't change anything. The interest is in the middle of your picture and leaving the side with less detail takes the eye to the focus of the painting. Best wishes

A lovely atmospheric piece with great light.

Pen and wash. St Johns Square, Valletta. Drawn to this image by the mid morning sun streaming between the buildings and the waiter leaning on a bollard waiting for the lunchtime trade to start. I would welcome opinions on two issues. Firstly, I drew the basic image in pencil first, then used the pen over it. Do you think I should erase these pencil lines? They are rather obvious on the left. Secondly, have I left too much undrawn or unpainted on the left side? Thanks
