Princess Desta
This is an image I've loved since I first saw it years ago. I believe the original is by Ras Daniel Heartman although the signature has been cropped off of the version I bought as a poster. Drawn with graphite pencils on a piece of board normally cut up and used for exhibition stands (it's a bit discoloured and shiny, but it was the right size!). It is 21x13 inches and by far the largest artwork I've taken on since picking up the paints and pencils again. I have avoided leaving pencil lines like hatching and shading etc and tried to achieve form by drawing dots and shapes of different size and tone. I didn't realise how absorbed I'd become with this and I now regret not taking the time to get proper paper to draw it on. Having said that my photo has a shine on the right hand side which makes the left darker and the board look more discoloured than it is and I quite like it.
