Portrait Practise #2 by Paulette Farrell

Next in my portrait research is charcoal on charcoal paper. The paper is very toothy with strange vertical lines down it and quite thin. It was good for clinging onto the charcoal and creating great darks but not so great for manipulating the charcoal around. I struggled to keep my whites very white. I wouldn't use it for proper portraits but will be taking it to life drawing to use there. Photo ref courtesy of Sktchy.
