I think you are very brave to have tackled so complex a subject, yet you have done it so well - this is a really good landscape.

Two exellent paintings Paul. I hope my first painting using acrylic is as good.

Do you tackle inaccessible mountain peaks in your spare time? Because this was courage above and beyond the call - I can't remember what my first acrylic was, but I remember my first oil: it was a jug and bowl, and I thought I was pretty brave to have tried that.... Seems a bit churlish to criticize an early attempt, but that's never stopped me yet.... I'm a bit too aware of the texture of the hill on which the castle sits, it sort of jumps out; a glaze or two would sort that; and the road on the far right reads a bit too much like a silver torrent and drags your eye to the edge of the painting. But you'll know that, as this is a few years old - it was still a good stab at the subject: did you base it on a photograph, though? That would explain the tonal issues.

Wow! What you have managed to portray in here is great, down to the cars etc.. on the road. I like the feeling space too. Very nice indeed :)

You are indeed very brave to have chosen such a complex scene as your first attempt in acrylic, Paul, even though you can overpaint. And what a good job you've done!

Many thanks everyone for your kind words. It's not quite my first Acrylic, I'd done 2 or 3 before this. I agree with your observations Robert, I may revisit the road and add a bit more colour here and there to break it up and yes, the hillside below the castle could do with a glaze or two. Another thing that grates on me is one of the church spires is leaning. It was done from a photo taken from a Hotel room I stayed in a few years back.

Certainly brave and very accomplished in my opinion. I don't use much acrylic and should do more when inspired by work like this.

Sorry - I meant to add a slight crit in that Princes St perspective seems a tad out.

An early attempt at Acrylic from a couple of years ago. Perhaps I should have chosen a less complex image for such early days but I found it less daunting than doing it in watercolour knowing I could overpaint.
