Very impressive. I would like to know a little about the medium that you used on this piece.

Hi Nick Kane. I used wolff's carbon pencils. They're great, blend really easily are darker than graphite pencils and you don't have any of the shine you get with normal pencils. For the paper I thought I'd try paper more usually used for pen and ink drawings, so really smooth finish. Thought it wouldn't work as well as paper specifically made for pencil work, but it actually worked out surprisingly well. It produced some nice smooth gradients.

I'm always trying to paint/draw original pieces. Either by taking the source image myself or spending hours searching for a variety of images that I compose in photoshop. Quite often sitting down and starting the painting or drawing is the midway point in the process for me. However, I do find that in my search for originality I tend to lose sight of the basics, like good form, contrasts etc. within the image. So, I'm going back to basics and concentrating solely on producing as good a study as I can.
