You have certainly given this the breath of life, love the bright eyes an wet nose.

A lovely portrait. I agree about pastel being the ideal medium for fur and you've certainly used it to good effect here.

skillfully painted although the nose looks a bit plasticky and I feel the background colour doesn't set the dog off too well; maybe a bit darker in places to set off the lighter areas of fur.

I love little Harry - those button bright eyes and wistful look. Brilliant fur, especially the colour which is spot on. Very nice portrait.

What a cutty ! so very well painted.

The eyes do it for me and hair is great - what paper and pastels did you use ?

Thankyou all for your very kind comments. The paper used was a Canson warm pinky grey which shows through a little all over and acts as a kind of unifier. I use mainly Daler Rowney soft pastels but supplement this range with Unison pastels which are exquisite to work with, and one day I promise myself the whole range. The choice of colour for the background was natural as there is a lot of orangey earth and yellow earth colours, through to burnt Siennas and of course the purple grey background is within the band of complimentary colour to these. I could have used any one of a myriad of colours for the background but when I'm in any doubt I just look to the science of colour and make my choice from there,

Murray, this is an other excellent portrait, you are very talent and love your attention to detail and realism! =)

Gorgeous little pastel dog portrait Murray, great yo see you did one of these, my favourite medium and dogs are a favourite subject for me and a few people pastel portraits as well, this little dog is super

Pastel pet portrait. Pastel is the ideal medium for rendering the fur of animals, a few selective strokes of pastel can breath life into an animal painting.
