Dutch Winter Scene

Dutch Winter Scene

Put a mucky glaze over it, put it in a battered gilt frame (with curlicues: we must have curlicues!) and you'd never know that this wasn't a work by the 17th century Dutch master Willem de Zoen Van Bonk, whom I've just this minute made up. It's Sunday. I'm allowed to be flippant on Sunday.

Gorgeous work Murray, super winter scene, and really does have an old masters feel to it

Robert, I think the artist you mention is much better than the Delft artist Hertz Van Rental from whom I took much inspiration, though I have to say two of my favourite are Jacob Ruisdael and that fella Windhoek. I too am able to be flippant as it is Sunday! Thanks for the generous comments as ever Ros. Have you seen my good and humorous friend Robert's work? It is well worth the effort, he and I occasionally exhibit together and I think that we are due at the funny farm around about the same time!

What can I say after all that. I like the tree in itself but you're right about less snow being more. Oh good grief now I'm burbling.

A very nice painting in the Dutch Masters style. I also admire Jacob Van Ruisdael and you will find a couple of his work in my gallery, along with Cuyp and Hobbema who between them produced some wonderful skies.

Lovely composition, I find myself looking at the foreground figure and wanting to know more about what has taken their interest. I like it when a picture does that sort of thing.

Nice one, yes it did remind me of old Dutch paintings, Lovely colours and good figures.

This painting is in Artisan water-mixable oils and is my own composition based on many paintings in the Dutch style which is another very useful exercise when learning to paint. My tree ended up too central and the snow in the twiggery is too heavy, a case where less is more should have been applied! We all learn something new everyday.
