Clever and interesting approach

A beautiful piece of work.

Thank you both for the kind comments. I painted the head from a monochrome image about 6 years ago - surrounded by foliage, on a normal rectangular canvas. I was never happy with it, however, as the rainforest foliage never looked truly authentic. Then, working on an entirely different piece with a similar problem, I hit upon the idea of stripping away the backround altogether. Now, I think it is the absence of leaves / trees that, to a great extent, makes the image have meaning.

I really like the contrast between the cutout portrait and the background. So very effective!
