I’ve just spent a pleasant time looking through your gallery Mike, you have a wonderful eclectic mix of subjects which is refreshing. Your landscapes are full of atmosphere and you have that skill of managing to create a variety of excellent greens....which I envy! I like your inspiration for most of your paintings which is as personal gifts or experiences and I think that comes through in your paintings. I love this one, you say it’s tight but it shows your skill in drawing with your brush.

The composition of the painting came from a black & white photograph and was not a subject that would have been my first choice. The painting was done for a friend of mine whose partner was to celebrate her 60th birthday and her dad had worked in the shipyards back in the 1960s. It turned out that she was actually at the launch so the painting brought back many memories for her. For me I think the work is rather tight and overdone. However this does not matter as the lady in question was pleased with my interpretation of the occasion.e
