Michael I like it - summer rays of sunshine, seems such a long way off at the moment, but you have just brought it that much closer. Thank you for all your comments on my paintings I very much appreciate the encouragement

Nothing wrong with cottages, Michael and this looks very nice, with the strong sunlight and shadows. The reflected light on the gable end is a nice touch.

why would you "get away from cottages" when you do them so well? Some lovely balanced tones here, and the addition of the figures gives it life. nice work.

Excellent stuff Michael, caught the mood of a bright summer day perfectly, has the look of a 1950s style book illustration. You know - Jean and Roberta stepped out into the bright sunshine. Now, Roberta thought...

Lovely and fresh, Michael. The colours on the gable end are one of my favourite combinations - on my computer anyway it looks like ultramarine and burnt umber? - how do you get that effect, is it mixed on the paper rather than the palette?

The light and shade on this are lovely, Michael - glad you painted it. Am in awe of the way you paint - you manage to say so much without the detail which bedevils me still.

Michael it doesn't matter what you paint, you always manage freshness, vitality and a damn good watercolour!! Love it!

Thanks so much one and all - you are really all so kind - after such encouragement I shall look out for more cottages to paint

Whatever else you do Michael do not give up painting cottages, they all work so well and this piece is not an exception, I think it has all been said by the other comments already and difficult to add anything other than it is a really fine and accomplished piece of drawing and watercolour painting

Very simple, but no tense very free brush stroke. Great! I like the red guy. Nice point!

Thanks so much graham and Midori for your kind comments - Caroline I have posted a reply to your query on your Quinces in case you missed it here.

I agree with ALL the above comments, Michael, why get away from cottages? This is again a beauty and I can see you enjoyed painting this, so....

Nowt wrong with cottages - even so, I can see why you'd want to move on: we mustn't get stuck on portraying the same thing endlessly; but then, you don't .... I do find it hard to find new subjects: and so paint less than I should.... the endless and unanswerable question.....

Another simple and beautiful watercolour Michael, and I love cottages!

Mia and Petra thanks so much as always for your kind comments. Robert - yes there is a problem with finding subjects - I do find that running workshops and responding to students suggestions helps as do challenges laid down on this website although it doesn't happen that often..

I agree michael its lovely and fresh.

Quite happy to look at as many cottages as you want to paint, Michael! This one is just lovely - the light is so beautifully done. And love the greens, very envious of the subtle clean changes in color.
