Michael, this is lovely, great big brush strokes and bold colours. Stunning painting.

I really like the way you have put this painting together, Michael. The two figures in front of the cottage are so important as is the foliage in the top left hand corner. Try blocking out either of these two elements and the overall effect is diminished. I also like the two red "suggestions" at the far left. Very well done, if I may say so.

This has a nice, fresh 'summery' feel to it, the shadows emphasize the bright sunlight, well done.

This is really beautiful, Michael - love the big, bold brushstrokes and the superb light. And your palette is super too. It's a real winner!

Big, bold and beautiful, and not at all chocolate boxy. I'm very envious of those loose juicy washes and lively brush marks. Woody sends his regards and thanks you for your lovely comments and is very grateful that you couldn't eat him in a pie:)

Oh this is gorgeous! Juicy is just the right word. This is exactly what I'm aiming for; try as I might, seemingly doing all the 'right' things, my work still comes out chalky. I can almost smell the breeze in this. I've turned that cottage into a pub in my fond imagination and those are two chums heading happily towards it.

this is a really nice piece of loose watercolour painting Michael, like the composition and colours used and agree with the comments about the importance of the figures and tree on top right and the feeling of light that. you have created as well.

Thanks so much everyone - I really do appreciate your comments - must say that not all my attempts at being this loose work out so well but I keep trying.

Ah ... the chocolate-box look can creep up on you, too, almost before you know it. This isn't choccy-boxy at all, but is vibrant and fresh.

I agree with everyone, really lovely painting Michael

Thanks for taking the time to comment Robert and Petra - I do appreciate your lind encouragement

A beautiful watercolour style, so loose yet controlled. Well done.

Michael this is a stunner! The brilliance of it jumped out from the gallery page......I can almost feel the heat of that warm summer sunshine on my face.

Wonderful vibrant painting -super light and shadows. This works very well.

Loving the looseness in this! :)

Carole, Fiona, Thea, and sarah - thanks again for your very kind comments

Not visited site for a while, so just catching up. This one and your tree are great

Just the loose style I aim for but seldom achieve. If I had done this I would have been delighted. Very Ted Wesson, Steve Hall etc. read your comments re critiques in the forum. I think you were kind to me which is why I added my own comments in reply.

The trouble with this kind of subject is that it can look very chocolate boxy so one answer is to paint it really loosely - also a lot of fun doing it this way with nice juicy washes.
