This more than works, Michael. It's a lovely, vibrant little study. You suggest so much movement and volume in respect of the grass with just the right tones and brushwork. And I love the sepia tones - they always evoke a very nostalgic feel.Very, very nice indeed!

a fine study in sepia Michael, really works. like it a lot.

It's great! So appropriate for a misty autumn morning.

There is nothing much to look at,yet the painting is full of atmosphere-- so simple so full of movement----- A lesson to be learnt then--- keep it simple.

A delightful little study, Michael! How I envy those who are proficient in the use of watercolours!!

A simple subject made so charming by your wonderful treatment of it, Michael - takes expertise to do this...

Good example of 'less is more', who would think a humble post could make a picture? But it does - well done.

This is beautiful Michael, simple but effective, very well done

Love it, love it....Michael!! Do more in inks.......pleeaaaaasee!

Sorry Michael, just realised my mistake.......it's not ink! It's still great though.

Such an attractive sketch and even better for it's simplicity.

Wow - I never expected such a response when I posted this unassuming littls piece - thanks so much everyone for your very generous comments.

Another great example of less is more. I'm not really a fan of sepia paintings but this one has that extra something which makes it so attractive.

A lovely study Michael. This has the same 'simple' appeal as your business card design.

It certainly did work, Michael. This is beau-ti-ful!!! I love monochromes!!!

Missed this at the time, but agree with all the comments above: it's simple (apparently) but effective.

I love this simple scene Michael,( I have a thing about old fences and old stone walls in paintings, but never seeem to be able to put them in the right setting in any of my rare landscapes.) I have had a good look at your portfolia and you can paint almost anything, lovely paintings. Pleased you were able to get your red rose!

Love your style Michael - especially the space you leave in your work for the onlooker to 'fill in' - very nice, bright, soft and well-composed work - love it! And the rest of your portfolio is very impressive!

A simple little study in sepia - only did it as an exercise but it seemed to work.
