A great example of what watercolour is all about - just letting the colours and water do the work - lovely!

What can one say?? This is absolutely delightful. Angela, above, says it all. More, please, Michael.

Lovely fresh watercolour, super sky. I have a book by Ray Campbell Smith, he paints in a similar way. Stephen

Wonderful! again an easy approach...so effective,.

Another fine watercolour Michael with a great sky once again with some nice tones in the rees as well , a nice piece.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. Stephen, you are correct - I have been greatly influenced by Ray Campbell Smith when painting scenes such as this - I also use a similiar palette to him with just a few exceptions.

Fabulous sky Michael, the hard edges to he clouds are brilliantly placed. May I ask if you use ultra marine & burnt umber for your darks as in the foreground hedgerow? I hope you can find a few more like this......... I've been doing a few oils just lately but when I see your paintings and others such as Alan Owens etc I want to have another go with watercolours. I get very frustrated with them!!! Great painting by the way...if I haven't already said!!Lol!

There's nothing more to add, except that I like it alot!

Very lively sky - as for your artful titling trick; confess I've done the same... um, twice. Shame mode.... Ray Campbell Smith is a great example to follow; I've always liked the rusty colour he achieves in his trees, and his attraction to pure watercolour.

Thanks again for all your comments. I have been asked about my palette especially the clouds. Clouds: ultramarine with light red and raw sienna used in a variety of mixes and sometimes paynes gray. For the rest of my paintings, in addition to these colours, I also use burnt sienna, paynes gray, cobalt blue, sap and olive green. When painting foliage I use the greens knocked back with varying additions of ultramarine, raw sienna and burnt sienna. I sometimes use other colours for the odd highlight: cad red and cad yellow for example. Hope this is of interest.

Lovely painting. You've captured the mood of the sky very well.

For me this is the best - brilliant sky, trees, composition and atmosphere! By the way, thanks for your comment on my latest posting which I was not really happy about.

Fiona - another country scene as requested. I did two versions of this scene which is pure invention. This one, when exhibited in Leicestershire, was called Leicestershire Fields and the other, when exhibited in Staffordshire, was called Staffordshire Fields - well I had to call them something!
