Both are beautiful but this one is my favourite!

The first one was so immediate, as sketch would be, but this one is just lovely, Michael. I love the way the windmill sails stand out against the grey of the sky; in fact the sky is great.

Nice to see two versions, I think they both work well. i did an on site pencil sketch of Lytham windmill a few weeks ago. A few days later I showed it to a friend who said 'ah they have stil not repaired it then'. Apparently two of the sails had been ripped off in a storm some time ago. I must have been consentrating so much I failed to notice!

I love both versions Michael, this one is more polished but the other one has that 'of the moment' feel to it. I think version one does it for me, quick, non-fussy, and free-ness (if that's a word) about it.

Thanks all for your comments. Fiona - yes I do like the word 'freeness' It reminds me of another (non-existent) word with the opposite meaning which I was introduced to a few years back; 'presact' which is something I try to aviod in my work.

A different approach, but equally appealing. This one has a different atmosphere - the sky is definitely more foreboding! I like them both!

I prefer this one: beautifully lively and atmospheric.

Thanks Seok and Mia for taking the tims to comment

See previous posting - this took the longer (about 3 hours) version of the same subject - different approach - not sure if I have a preference .....................
