Keep going! I like your loose style. As for portraiture have you tried gridding to get the basic drawing? It works and is a good way to start. Suggested palette for flesh colours would be Titanium white with raw umber or yellow ochre plus a small touch of a red to warm it up; either burnt Sienna for a 'weather worn look' or alizarin Crimson for an English rose complexion or cadmium red for a ruddier complexion. Hope that helps!

Thankyou janet i appreciate your advice.

im afraid i really struggle to name my pictures even though i am quite good at poetry. anyway i struggled also with the composition until i was finally quite happy with it. my portraiture is coming along. i had a disappointment though this morning because what was a pretty good picture ended up ruined by my never knowing when to say: thats it! finished! the result was a disaster but i will keep on trying to get that hardest of all objects:the human face. this has little to do with the present upload so apologies for my rambling.

About the Artist
Michael Hanrahan

I love art but it's very much up and down as I go about my day to day life as a painter and often I really struggle to paint therefore I fall out with it.
