It is exquisite, Mia...I must look the website...

Lovely as usual but I do prefer the first one with the dip in the dunes and just part of the beached boat showing. It looks more "lost" than this.

This is my lucky day, Mia! I get to see so many of my favorite painters all post on the same day! As Ping says, this is just exquisite. I really like the way you take complicated subjects, capture their detail and break it down to an easily understood image. It's such a beautiful piece!

This is wonderful, Mia, in it's precision and freshness. Your caligraphy is amazing and the crispness of the boat is so charming. Also your placement of the boat balances the text very well. Great work.

Thank you all so very much for your lovely comments on "our" work. It is a real miracle to find a person to work with on the same sheet of paper, living 200km from here (as you can read on my Blog "About the calligraphy"). We both have the same ideas about composition, colours,.... I make the pen and wash first (after a meeting discussing some of my sketches -> do they ring a bell for him or not). I have to arrange my subject on the paper in a way that he has space enough to put the text on. The idea of this "Song of Blankenberge" came from my husband because we had an exhibition in my home town Blankenberge and it is part of our local heritage. We learned it at school, but young people do not even know it exists. During the exhibition, I heard elderly people sing the song for their children or grand-children!!! This was very emotional!

hi mia thanks for the comment you have fab gallery i deleted your comment and replaced with appolagy as im new to site i was putting all my boat pics together not raelising they would all appear on the listings as they did i know how frustrating it is as i have seen a few multiple postings in the last few weeks my appology to you and no offence was taken

Hello Mia. I have been looking through your lovely gallery - such delicate painting - your illustrations complement the beautiful calligraphy. Sadly my Flemish is not up to translating! We have returned refreshed from our short trip to Belgium. The weather was warm & sunny. We had lunch in Veurne and later met our friends and went on a tour of villages - Steenkerke, Beauvoorde, Houtem & Leisele. Great fun! The next day we went to St Sixtus and collected 2 crates (pre-ordered) of the best beer in the world! My husband is very happy! We met our friends again before coming home. We paln our next trip in June for 4/5 days. Helen

A pen and wash of our local hymn. The calligraphic text is by my friend Harrie Voet. More info about our collaboration on my Blog "Mia" and on Harrie's website www.kalosgrafein.be - galerie VI : kalligrafie in aquarel. Translation of the text is on this same portfolio: "The song of Blankenberge".
