Great forest scene, very inviting for a good walk, looks realistic

Nice one Maureen, I find this subject extremly hard to paint. Although my medium is water colour, it's not easy to get the correct balance of tonal range and depth and still maintain the detail, but you have managed to capture it. No easy!

Thank you both very much for your comments. In answer to Peter's comment - I, too, find it extemely difficult to get the effect I'm after and that's using acrylic or oil! I have used gouache before and enjoyed it. I've also painted a very small picture of a wood with watercolour + white gouache but used the watercolour pretty well straight from the tube so it was anything but watery!

Very inviting indeed! Lovely forest scene!

Almost missed this Maureen, the detail is fantastic! Where is it ? The wilds of Northumberland? Only guessing mind. I'd certainly hang it on my wall.

Thanks for your lovely comment, Marjorie. The view is actually within Belsay gardens and woods (a truly wonderful place).

I wanted this to be a quiet landscape painting avoiding the distraction of shafts of sunlight. 50cm x 50cm acrylic on canvas.
