Little Sark and the Coupee

Little Sark and the Coupee

I refer you again to Mr Pye by Mervyn Peake: La Coupée featured in that novel; the fact that this would be a challenge for the inebriated does, unfortunately, rule some of us out as potential followers of the walk....

Little Sark is connected to Sark by a tall, thin strip of land - known as the Coupee - seen to the right of the paintng. Barely wide enough for a tractor to cross, with 90 metre sheer drops either side, crossing the Coupee is not for the faint-hearted, or the inebriated! The railings were only added about 60 years ago! Painted on the spot in mixed media, with baking-hot sunshine and lots of biting insects!
