This is great, Marjorie...seems like so many great [lol!!]minds are thinking along the same lines today. Mine was on plain white gesso but this is really effective over pastel

Well this is excellent Marjorie, sensitive and appealing. They are worth persevering with I believe, although difficult to start with.

I so agree, they are definitely worth persevering with, and an undercoat is best in various soft tones as a base!

Lately there has been discussion on the forum and Thalia's post in the gallery re oil pastels, which seem to be the bane of everyone's life! Played a bit over dry pastel, no blending, cross hatching. Used an old sketch because I was more interested in the technique.I think it lends itself to optic colour mixing, eg cross hatching, though some areas can be very vibrant with thick oil pastel. This wasn't an ideal base, I knew that. Oh, I also think it works well on a coloured base.
