Very impressionistic Marjorie. Like the slight smudgy look with this. hope you didnt get too mucky. Me and oil pastels don't mix.

Great job, I can imagine these are difficult to use Marjorie.

Carole, I remember when I bought them, a good while ago, I read up on the "best"way to use them. Since then I just get on with it and no, I don't find them messy but then I don't find chalk pastels messy either. Amazing really ,when I remember as a little girl I insisted on eating jam sandwiches wrapped in a piece of paper! Thank you Dennis, Sylvia and Gudrun, too, for looking.

I think it's a smashing piece and not having tried oil pastels I might give them a go as they apparently not as messy as the soft ones, which just annoy me. The idea of reduced light is clever too.

Thanks Derek. What I would say, if you do decide to get some, is to buy some decent ones - mine are Sennelier and the pigment is strong. Years ago I bought a cheap set and it was like working with wax crayons with very little colour! If you're interested, I did three more oil pastels in "Odds and Ends" portfolio, trying different techniques (two faces and a pomegranate). I used fingers and torchons when I wanted to blend. Here tho' I just laid down some bright base of acrylics and worked over the top.

Beautiful depiction of textures and light, Marjorie.

Oil pastels, very quick study of limited light in dark room, an interest at the moment.
