Beautiful Lyn, I love the background too, which can be lost in a still life but this is as interesting as the study.

I'm sure I could have done no better than this; my only suggestion is that you concentrate on the flowers and relegate all else to a subsidiary role; I'd be inclined to reduce the green stalks to the minimum, even concealing them beneath the reflections on the glass. If I have a criticism, it's that the painting is divided in two - the flowers on the one hand, the vase on the other - I should prefer the flowers to overcome their support.

Robert makes a valid point but I must add that it is a the only one I could consider making on this superb painting.

I made this painting after a visit to a London Gallery to see Paul Rafferty's exhibition. Lilies are my favourite flowers and I was incredibly inspired by Paul's use of colour and light in his paintings of Lilies. The difficulty was not letting the complicated stalks fight with the flower heads as I love seeing the stalks in this vase but of course, the flowers were the most important thing. I fought long and hard and learnt a lot so the next one will be better.
