.Finally solved the problem with this one ( couldn't get the nose right!). Pretty tricky; I take my hat off to Landseer. :)

You're not the first to take your hat off to Landseer.... he became very much derided some years ago, and I hope his reputation is recovering now; the quality of his draftsmanship was spectacular. I suppose a later age found him sentimental - but if you can't be sentimental now and then, particularly so far as animals are concerned, aesthetic rigour has just gone a step or two too far. I had an uncle who, bless him, would solemnly assure me that "sentiment is the worst of our emotions": and what an unremitting bore he was.... And slightly hypocritical, since he doted on his big, fat, bad-tempered, flatulent Labrador, who had her own chair in his sitting room and took the deepest offence if anyone else chose to sit on it... But I digress - spirited drawing of a characterful dog.

Yes, it is true that Landseer reflects the sentimentality of the Victorian age- which doesn't particularly appeal to me but I overlook it because all artists are a product of their own time. :) What does appeal to me is the draughtmanship that underpins the visual style. :)

BTW , I love your description of your uncle's dog: hilarious !

I can never resist a dog portrait being a dog lover myself. Is this your dog? Anyway, it is a lovely simple drawing of a handsome dog - very unfussy and right to the point. Well done.

No, its the pet of a Facebook friend- drew it from the computer screen at her request. :) I'm not really a dog person; cats and horses are more my thing- but I enjoyed drawing it all the same. Glad you like it. :)
