What an original and successful idea, Louise. I don't think the foliage is overdone. There is a tree like this rich one in my youngest daughter's garden. Your grass method is indeed very effective. Question: what do you use for your washing up now (LOL) :) Mia.

Long live the sponge! Lovely painting Louise, the foliage is great!

Very original Louise..........love the grass!

Thanks Mia, Satu and Fiona. Mia, the washing up can wait (lol) and Fiona, I was surprised at how effective the blades of grass turned out. Just a few swipes of the sponge dipped in paint and hey presto...

I like the grass also.Tonally good and very dynamic at angles of about 45%.Perhaps do a painting just of grass like this, and allow the point of interest to be a passage of colour or variety of line. (Just an idea)

Lovely sketch Louise and very original

This reminds me of a wonderful tree in blossom seen in the early morning light. I don't want to dissect it to pick out details - I just want to enjoy the whole as it is. Lovely work, Louise. Needs a good title though!

Love the way you incorporated your personal stamp of negative shapes into the foliage, Louise. Not overdone at all, and a lovely piece!

I really like the colours in your tree and echoed in the background hill. The foliage is great.

Many thanks David, Thea, Glennis, Seok and Carole!

watercolour 25 cm x 23 cm. This morning's tree sketch. I went a bit over the top with the foliage but I'm happy with the grass effect which was achieved by brushing on paint quickly with the torn edge of my washing up sponge. :)
