I've been flicking back and forth, playing 'spot the difference'. At first I didn't think you could improve the first one, as it was so lovely, but I think you have made a worthwhile difference. I love the bank of bluey-green trees behind the houses, and I have noticed the cheeky little trio of trees that you've added on the first ridge behind the houses. All in all, lovely paintings with both versions, but the second one wins for me. Well done, it's always brave to try to improve a watercolour.

Ah, thanks Ann, that's a relief :)

I agree with Ann, although the first version was nice too. It feels very delicate but , as usual . very nice.

I've been doing what Ann has done - definitely spot the difference. It is quite subtle but is definitely there in the strength of colour behind the houses. I like both versions, but I think you have make small but worthwhile improvements in the second version. I often doesn't take much to just hit that sweet place when you know you have got it right and it is always best to go with your gut reaction however positive the feedback has been. You made the right decision to have a re-think and it has definitely resulted in a better painting. I think it is called using 'artististic instinct' - so yours must be very well developed as you seem to be able to make these correct decisions about your paintings. Well done.

Sorry - awful typing - lots of errors in it - hope you can make sense of my comment!

Yes, the cottages do stand out well Louise, although I wouldn't have dared do anything as your first posting was great too.

Agree with Thea - took a while for me to spot the differences, but the small changes do make a difference and the cottages do pop a bit more now. Worth the rework, Louise!

thanks Thea, Carole and Seok. I appreciate these comments but I wasn't completely happy with it and I've altered it now and made the whole painting darker. I've posted the 're-make' today :)

Louise, I was busy dying when you posted these two originally, but do salute your courage in taking the picture further to the realization you've achieved in version 3, when it would have been much easier not to! It's as if the whole painting has come into focus - your latest (and last!) one is so much sharper and more satisfying - although most of us would have been more than happy with this....

watercolour 34 cm x 34 cm. Despite many kind comments received last time I posted this painting, I wasn't completely happy with it as I felt that it didn't look quite finished. I've added more detail behind the cottages which hopefully makes them stand out a bit more. I thought of darkening the sky slightly but I'm not brave enough and decided to leave it as it is! I think that it is an improved version and as it's a watercolour there's no going back :) Thank you for all the comments on the first version which I appreciate.
