You are so right about the difficulty of painting glass or crystal. What with refracted, reflected and transparent light in all directions. What chance have we got. A valliant effort anyway Louise. I have never tried painting glass yet so well done for having a go.

Many thanks Chris! I've spent 2 days now on this impossible subject. Perhaps clear glass is easier but that doesn't hold the same attraction for me. I do like a challenge ) This is my 4th attempt at this jug. Another mystery is how to paint silver in watercolour but I might pass on that.

Sometimes one can become obsessed by a problem, I know the feeling. Allow me a few observations, Louise (no offense I hope): the glass texture looks a lot better and the colours are beautiful (stronger). But... in my opinion, the "corners" of your bottom ellips are too sharp and it looks as if the middle of the handle is bended forwards. That was not so in your first one. I also prefer the first one because of the darker shadow and the light background. It accentuates the shape more than in this one. But that is my opinion and who am I.... never tried this difficult subject. :) Mia

No problem Mia. I appreciate that you've taken the time to look and you're quite right about the sharp corners! I just don't like being beaten! I was the same with the Terry&Fiona thing, I'm embarrassed to tell you how many of those I did (lol) I've finished with the glass jug!

A different take, Louise - I think overall I prefer the first version, but this one has its own appeal. It is more graphic in nature, and I love the way the background mirrors the glass. Love the rich, jewel like colors too.

I have to say that I like this version best as I am enjoying the mirroring of the shapes in the glass in the background, which anchors the jug within the painting. Love the colours too. As for the accuracy of the drawing, etc. - you know me - I am not that interested in being totally correct like that as I feel treating a subject in a painterly manner is much more important than mere perspective and that is what you have done here.

Thanks Seok and Thea. Thea, actually, I prefer this one as well but we all see things differently which makes life interesting! I'm not into accurate paintings either, both glass paintings are a little rigid for my taste, but painting like this is a good exercise. I have to look hard at what I'm painting. I'm a great believer in drawing skills. All good practice :)

A lovely glass jug, I like the way you have echoed the pattern in your background Louise.

I've had quite a battle with this glass jug! I've called it No 2 when in fact, I've had rather more goes at the subject. Painting glass in watercolour is difficult (lol)
