Wow! That's a big one and it is really impressive too. I love the way you have placed the scene within the context of the larger area with the glimpses of hills in the background which shows that the city is never that far from countryside. Everything about it is just right and spot on. I have no idea how you construct these very complicated scenes - they would completely fox me!

Exciting viewpoint and great shapes, perspective must have been quite a challenge but it all fits together beautifully. I like the way you have used the roofs to lead zigzag towards that big tower in the middle. And the cars enhance the foreground nicely, giving everything a sense of scale. Masterful.

Another beauty Louise, always just enough detail, no messing! The background hills are there and are so inviting after the bustle of the city.

Like Thea I don't know how you cope with these complicated city scenes. However you manage it they are great.

Louise, this is a winner!! I love it and truly admire your skill! To be able to cope with all those surfaces, angles, roofs, windows, streets and cars...wow!! The colours also are just right and the overall impression is that of a living city, lovingly drawn. Congratulations Louise!

Interesting colours, I also like the way it starts lighter at the bottom and gets darker at the top creating great depth.

Now that is what I call great Louise

Thank you all so much for your good comments. I tried to keep true to the scene more or less although I was tempted to move some buildings, I didn't. Mancunians would notice! Since posting, I've made a couple of minor alterations. Bits I don't see and need working on are apparent once they're on screen. Not exactly sure why that is. Can't resist saying that it looks better in real life, mounted and framed up, as it's quite a good size. It's growing on me!

Works very well Louise, quite an undertaking, especially at that size. I did a quick pen sketch this morning of Chethams Music School, it was a bit too complex for me for a quickie, I will add a few washes later and see if it's fit to post!

This has the elements that I dislike most about cities...stifling, crowded, overpowering, people un-friendly, grubby....which makes this painting very convincing and rather good!

Big and bold Louise and bags of style!

I love this chunky townscape. Especially the three little cars bottom right, which seem like three little people on the edge, considering entering the big city. Sounds daft, I know.

As great as this is I would just love to see a few figures in the foreground to bring it alive. Am I being too picky?

Thank you Stephen, Debs, Shirley, Gudrun and Fred for your kind words. I never even thought of adding figures Fred as there weren't any in my ref photo (taken by daughter from a muti storey car park I think) I plan do do some more like this as they're proving to be popular and I enjoy painting such city scenes. Any people would have been very small in this one though!
