Lovely use of colours and tone Louise

Almost back to the old Louise- which I much prefer to your more recent work.

Great colours Louise and lots of impact!

Thank you Dennis, Malcolm and Debs. Interesting that you should say that Malcolm and I appreciate hearing your honest opinion. I find it almost impossible to stick to a particular style of painting. It's just the way I am! The predicament is that my Manchester scenes sell, people like to recognise a place. My figures are great fun to do, quick and easy, and yet I do love strong colour which is evident I think in the landscapes. (This particular one is overworked I know.) You've made me think now..
Never stop experimenting Louise! I think it is easy to fall into the trap of what sells (not that I've ever sold anything)!) but do what you enjoy and what pleases you. Your artwork is innovative and exciting!

Some gorgeous colours here Louise, lovely composition and shapes, brilliant.

Thank you Annette, Christine and Carole. We can't change how we are can we or that need to paint. Malcolm has made me think and I've realised that I have to be enthusiastic about what I'm painting or any excitement is lost. I struggled with this one and knew almost straight away that my heart wasn't in it. Looking at it now on screen that lack of enthusiasm is evident to me. We all like different things which is what makes life so interesting. I can't move backwards though and I know exactly what I want to paint next. What drives us on. I just don't know!

Love all this work Louise and over the years I think it has all gone from strengh to strengh. Many artists experiment and there may be a range of work done. Its all part about being an artist .

I think there is merit in everything you do - from your quick sketches, experimental work, Manchester scenes and this style of painting. They all have such life and vivacity about them and always look like they have been produced effortlessly. I am like you in that I like to flit from one subject to another (probably down to a low threshold of boredom) and I do think this approach can keep a freshness that sticking to one subject can't always achieve. I know a lot of people may think that the quick sketches are worth less in artistic terms than a more complete painting like the one here, but I don't agree with this as I feel that each genre shows another facet of you as an artist. I always enjoy seeing the paintings you do in this style because your command of colour is superb and is always a feast for the eyes. Also your strong design sense gives these paintings power. This one is very striking with real impact, and also has that surprise factor as we haven't seen one like this from you for a while. Perhaps that's the way to go - never give your audience too much of what they want - keep them guessing and wanting more - another good reason to vary your style, subject and approach.

You may have struggled with this Louise but I think it's wonderful!

Thank you David, Thea, Helen and Carole. Good to hear your thoughts!

I was immediately attracted to this painting Louise - I don't know the rest of your work so I can comment without comparing - all I know is that it has such impact because although it has a loose "abstract" approach the wet in wet rounded soft sky set against the angular fields and countryside is so expressive and speaks volumes - oh and I am a huge fan of colour in paintings! Love it

Instantly recognizable as one of yours. I must admit I agree with Malcolm, and miss your old style.
Maybe it needs a wee white house placed on the horizon about a third in from the left and it could be a Scottish landscape.
