The dark blue sky pushes the red bricked buildings forward and they in turn seem to push the parked cars forward, thankfully the wall blocks the cars from coming through my computer screen lol. A very powerful image.

Well thank you Stephen! I hadn't intended the sky to be so dark but because I didn't pre draw that vertical post, it leaned badly and because it was black ink, I had to hide the black line with white gouache, and darker blue. Taught me a lesson though, best pencil in verticals first!

Also, I meant Street, not Strret. !

Hi Louise i love this one , everything is right about it. As Stephen said the deep blue sky pushes it all forward creating depth . On top of this its painted in a no fuss way and as a result you Louise have painted a beauty well done first class.

Another lovely sketch of Manchester. I must visit your lovely city :)

Thank you Dennis and Petra, I am rather fond of the place as you can probably tell!

This is perfect and just a typical street scene with the parked cars, etc. Love it - great sketch (well - it is more than a sketch in my book). Clever old stick, aren't you!

Very nice pen & wash Louise. The colours work well together.

Another good one - love the touch of green which makes the picture.

Now who would think a car park would make an interesting painting? This does!

Old and new together.... I love these old disused factories full of rusty fitments! and weathered walls. A great "sketch".

You to a tee! The colours and buildings, sky and cars just work so well together, Louise!

Thank you Thea, Dympna, Michael, Christine and Avril for your kind comments. For me, the beauty of cities like Manchester is that there seems to be something to paint everywhere you look. Even a car park can have a certain something about it, it depends how closely you look.

A splendid cityscape, Louise - super palette and a good strong image. A mundane subject, yet infused with dynamism. Well done!

All been said really! I'm playing catch up as usual! I will be in Manchester this Sunday so I'll be on the look out for your street scenes!

I'm playing catch up too and finally there is no more trouble while using iPad for POL. Super sketch again Louise! I do admire the way you can see things to paint everywhere around you. I must try to start to be more observant and keep my camera with me. Do you take photos of the places or do a sketch there and then?

Thank you Sarah, Seok, Debs and Satu. Debs, you won't see me with a sketch book which kind of answers Satu's question! My own and my daughter's photos Satu. Where I live outside Manchester is actually quite green..When in town, I take my camera :)

A pen and wash Manchester sketch. The old black and white advertising sign has been left on the side of the brick building which was formerly a lead works.
