Wonderful use of watercolour to describe this series of industrial shapes. You seem to have used the paint differently in this one, Louise, as I detect patches and shapes within the blocks of colour which I haven't seen so much of before. Is this another new avenue for you? I wouldn't be surprised as you are a great experimenter and all the better for being like that. This is a wonderful painting - simply and done without undo fuss, but it packs a real punch.

Yes - shapes it is and a glorious use of them - great atmosphere.

A superb piece, Louise - just goes to show how a discerning eye and painterly approach can see and render interest and appeal into what might otherwise be mundane steel and metalwork.

They have said it Louise, wonderfully successful painting!

A lovely palette and strong shapes. Nice work.

I would never imagine that a dark oppressive place like this could be interpreted into a successful painting but you've done it Louise!

Thank you Thea, Michael, Seok, Satu, Avril and Christine for your kind comments!

I quite like the industrial/ironscape paintings that some artists specialise in and I like this. Strong and un-moving and you've got that in bucket loads.

Unusual and mysterious subject painted beautifully. It has a feeling that someone is there without you painting in any figures which I really like. Technically I love the layers of light washes as this has brought a fragile and light feeling to what is a heavy industrial subject. It is a very interesting painting and I hope you do a few more.

Thank you Fiona and Joseph. Also, Joseph for the FB like. We artists can be quite fragile sometimes don't you think and I was beginning to have doubts about this particular one which I'm now obviously happy with :)

Captured very well Louise, this reminded me of some paintings and colours used by Mike Chaplin, do you know his work? Watercolour Challenge?

Very kind of you Carole..I wish!

I love this brooding labyrinth of columns and girders. I can hear dripping too... You've said just enough, no more.

Really enjoy the mystery in this image, it draws you in. A great use of the wonder that is watercolour! Had a quick look through some of your other work today - you have a great way of simplifying complex subjects; lovely stuff! And I'm particularly impressed with your still life work of 2012 - love the use of colour and the abstract aspect.

I've painted this place a few times now, but whenever I travel in to Manchester on the train, I see sights like this and am struck by the beauty and strength of the old, what I assume are Victorian structures.
