Thanks Jim. I hadn't thought of it like that, but I do see what you mean. Originally this was supposed to be a railway painting, but I got far more interested in the boys.

What a poignant memory of yesteryear David, there were so many children evacuated at the time. You have painted this beautifully.

Great picture, got the feeling. We were evacuated but came back after six months and was bombed out by a Doodlebug! Bad timing or what?

I don't live in London any more, but I grew up in London, I was born in London and I studied in London, so I still think of myself as a Londoner. Both my parents were born in London during world war II, although neither was really evacuated. I originally just wanted to do a picture of Paddington with a steam locomotive, but the idea of this one grew, and grew to the point where I didn't even need to put a locmotovie in it, because the evacuee boys here are the story.
