Well done your wife - paintings don't have to be of anywhere in particular; I know that people tend to like recognizable "views", but personally I get round that by taking a given scene, making a drawing from it, and then putting away the photograph if there was one. So I work from the sketch, and move more and more away from the actual scene until I've got a picture I like the look of. This painting was well worth saving.

Definitely not one for the bin, Lionel. It has a lot of atmosphere and I like the palette a lot - autumnal but balanced by the cool blue of the sky. It's very effective and attractive.

Autumn colours work nicely. Certainly not for the bin. A painting is what you want it to be.

i think this is a lovely Autumn painting Lionel, and you should never bin any of your paintings. They help you to learn where to improve on, and/or other people will like them. Just because you do not like it, does not mean others will think the same. :-)

It definitely didn't deserve to be relegated to the bin!! Lovely autumn scene with a wonderful blustery and billowing sky. It might be 'nowhere in particular' but it such a nice place I would like to be there.

Many thanks to you all for your encouraging comments and to you, Robert, for the ideas. They are all very useful.

The sky and trees go together beautifully here Lionel, and you have picked up the tree colour in the land, great Lionel

Lionel, so lovely to read your comment on my last picture, not because of my picture but because you're back and you sound so well....if that makes sense?! I hope I am right and you are well, I bet it's been very much warmer in Spain than it has here. I can't believe I have missed your last few paintings, my apologies. The last few months have been a bit hectic and I just haven't had the time or the motivation really to paint. I have joined a local art group, my last picture was the result of my first visit. It's all very informal but at least I hope to pick a brush up, if only twice a month. I thought it might kick start me again but I haven't done any since my last posting. I look forward to seeing your painting by the way....hope I don't miss it!! I don't look on the gallery very much either these days and when I do there are so many to look through.....My very best wishes to you Lionel xxx

Agree with all the above Lionel, I love the look of this small painting its something special. Make sure you check with your wife more often

Hi Lionel thanks so much for your super comment on my self portrait, you were so kind with your words, lovely to see you posting work on the site again, hope we can see more

From imagination because I wanted to try out some autumn colours. But my wife liked it so it was saved from the bin. 7 X 5 inches canvas board.
