No idea what the book is but the illustration is fabulous Lewis! I suspect I should know - is it an Alasdair McLean book?

Just seen this on the forum Lewis, it’s brilliant! I’ve suggested a couple of titles but it isn’t obvious what it could be. I thought a long the lines of sea wolf, cockleshell hero’s?

The cruel sea?

Good one Lewis, not sure could be John Harris's The Sea Shall Not Have Them?

Thanks for all your comments. I'd imagined this would be very easy, but you've all come up with perfectly good suggestions, so maybe it isn't easy. I'll wait a little bit to confirm the book...in case anybody else has a go.

Brilliant. I will go with Fiona "The Cruel Sea "

Could fit any one of several great classic films Lew.. I thought "The Caine Mutiny", then '"The Cruel Sea"... Beautiful illustration....

Is it Moby Dick Lewis?

Haven’t got a clue, Lewis, but like the monochrome illustration!

Nostromo, Joseph Conrad?? But whichever it is, this is a brilliant scene!

Thanks to all for your kind comments, and very sensible suggestions. It is 'The Cruel Sea' by Nicolas Montserrat, a brilliant book and a classic film. Many of you guessed it. Although the film is often shown on TV, I guess the book and film are 'of' my time...and most of you are younger.

I don't know the book so I'll just say that I'm too young.. (I wish) !! It's yet another fabulous painting from you.

Yes, I've seen the movie, Lew. Great film, from what I remember, and a great painting/drawing. Bri

A Beautiful illustration Lewis, Love your gallery cartoons are great

A busy man Lewis , it wasn't there when I went to bed. Have to confess I would have gone for Alistair McLean and also confess to not having read the Cruel sea. However , doesn't stop me enjoying your work. Another good one.

Has to be “The Cruel Sea” Nicolas Montserrat. Incidentally Tom Hanks has a movie coming out in which he plays a corvette Captain.

Thanks again to those who've commented...I thought I'd thanked everyone. Good tip about the Tom Hanks film, James. I'll watch out for it, I like a good sea story.

For the 'name that book' challenge. I think this one's too easy, but then I would, wouldn't I? A3 sketchbook. Pen, watercolor and some touches of gouache.
