I think the alcohol has reached her eyes. Love the unfocused stare ✔️

Just how I imagine her, Lewis, I have a tiny, old Toby jug with a very similar expression!

Excellent character Lew, she definitely had a tipple before posing for your sketch .

Just love your Dickens characters, Lewis - please keep them coming!

You’ve been kinder to her than Dickens was, Lewis.

I'll bet very few remember that a gamp used to slang for an umbrella. The lady certainly made an impression, as, indeed, you have Lew.

Oh yes! More please.

Great Dickens characters Lewis.

Your Dickensian pictures are superb Lew , never fail to impress.

Great characterisation Lewis. Love that nose which would light up the street.

Thanks to all for your generous comments.

Love it.

Brilliant, Love it !

Terrific Lewis, what a face, reminds me of an old dinner lady from primary school

Wow, brilliant!

A sort of nurse. Dickens describes her as fat, with no neck, a red nose, and shabby... with the odour of alcohol. Watercolour and coloured pencil, Arches HP paper.

About the Artist
Lewis Cooper

Self taught. Love drawing. Like to make pictures up, without using reference pics, often in cartoon style. I do other pictures where I do use reference. I'm knocking on a bit, born in 1940 in Greenwich, London. Retired, and loving it.
